Tiny Toys and Dolls

The Last Dodo - Pullalong Toy!

This magnificent creature was inspired by an illustration in an old book of vintage Victorian toys and I just had to make one!

He is highly detailed and has a somewhat haughty expression which is rather incongruous, given his frankly ridiculous headgear!

On his back he has a blue leather saddle, imprinted with an intricate pattern, which is in turn decorated with lots of tiny blue crystals.

Hanging from beneath the saddle are two clusters of gold filigree beads strung onto gold thread.

The saddle also has a fancy blue and gold harness which goes around his chest.

On his head he wears a little fancy cap which supports a gold headdress, encrusted with tiny sapphires. The cap is secured under his chin with a silk ribbon tie, finished at each side with silk ribbon rosette bows.

A final flourish is given by the plume of filmy feathers emerging from the top of his headdress, to add a rather jaunty air.

The dodo is made from poly-resin and hand-painted. He is mounted on a wooden platform, which is covered with an intricate and colourful kaleidoscopic pattern. The platform sits on two metal axles, which allow the blue-painted wheels to turn freely. The centre of the wheels are adorned with tiny crystals

Finally the whole toy can be pulled along on its silken cord by a carved wooden pull.

An exceptionally unusual and eye-catching miniature toy for the nursery, playroom or toy shop.
